Cheltnam Festival

Set in glorious Cotswold countryside, with Cleeve Hill looming at the far end of the course to form a natural backdrop, Cheltnam is the spiritual home of National Hunt racing. The entire jump season is dominated by and geared towards one meeting here, the National Hunt Festival in March: three days of the very best steeplechasing and hurdling.

Highlight of the first day - Tuesday - is the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle over an extended two miles, the undisputed championship event for the best hurdlers. Wednesday features the Queen Mother Champion Chase over two miles for the cream of the chasing speed merchants. Thursday is Ladbrokes World Hurdle and Ladies Day. Friday is Cheltnam Gold Cup day itself a Grade 1 steeplechase for five year olds and upwards over 3 miles 2 1/2 furlongs.

Cheltnam is a track which has its fair share of course specialists, be it over hurdles or fences, so always pay attention in the form book as to which Course (Old or New) a horse has previously performed best at because some struggle on one and excel on the other.
